Sacramento Republic FC’s ownership group is reportedly bringing another professional sports team to the area
More professional sports are on the way for the Sacramento area.
According to Meg Linehan of The Athletic, the ownership group of Sacramento Republic FC has helped secure an expansion team for the National Women’s Soccer League that will be entering play in either 2021 or 2022.
Per Linehan, a source familiar with Sacramento’s entry into the league said the team’s debut might not come until 2022.
With the Sacramento Republic FC expected to join the MLS in 2023, it is expected that the NWSL expansion team will also call the club’s upcoming stadium home as well.
Construction still has not started on the project, pushing Republic FC’s expected MLS debut into the 2023 season.
Once the shovels hit the dirt on building the 21,000 seat stadium, it will be a home for not just one franchise, but two as the National Women’s Soccer League will have its 12th team residing in Sacramento.
There should be plenty of good times ahead at the Sacramento Railyards.
