The US Open at Torrey Pines was quite a showcase for the PGA’s best golfers.

From Thursday to Sunday, we witnessed a little bit of everything. At one point on Sunday, we had one of the greatest looking leaderboards we had ever seen entering the back 9. As the round would continue some of the best would start to crumble.

The pre-tournament favorite was Jon Rahm.

Rahm has so much game but no majors to his name. Think about that, someone who has never won a major was the pre-tournament favorite. Many on the tour thought that Rahm was just a champion in waiting.

His time was Sunday.

History suggests that keep the pars coming and you could be the US Open champ. Avoid the big numbers, keep racking up the pars and you might see your name on top of the leaderboard. Rahm on Sunday left it to his putter on 17 and 18. He nailed two straight clutch birdies that vaulted him into the lead with others still playing on the course. Rahm’s final four-day total of 6 under par was 1 better than runner up Louis Oosthuizen.

For Oosthuizen it is another painful runner up finish.

Too many times we are all guilty of trying to find the next great thing in sports. Rahm is 26, he has been good for a while and now is a major champ. He is a brand-new father and had himself quite a Father’s Day. Just fifteen days ago he was being removed from a tournament that he had a huge lead in because of covid protocols. Now he is a major champ.

He is one of the best on the tour and really could put a lot of pressure on the rest of the golfers because his game and confidence should be at an all time high.
