It’s been quiet…too quiet.

The 2022 NBA Draft is less than two weeks away and the Sacramento Kings have been very reserved in sharing who they have brought in for pre-draft workouts.

During his workout on Friday with the Indiana Pacers, Australian guard Dyson Daniels shared with reporters that he has an upcoming workout scheduled with the Kings.

Daniels, a 6’7 guard, is listed as the sixth-best player available on ESPN’s best player available rankings. Other NBA mock drafts have the 19-year-old being drafted as high as seventh (Yahoo! Sports), eighth (Tankathon), ninth (NBADraft.net), and 10th (HoopsHype) during June 23rd’s draft.

In 2021-22 with the NBA G-League Ignite, Daniels averaged 11.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 45-percent from the field and 25-percent from beyond the three-point line.

At the NBA Draft Combine, Daniels was listed as 6’7 and 195 pounds with an impressive 6’11 wingspan.

Daniels is a combo guard that will likely be able to play point guard, shooting guard, and even some small forward at the NBA level. Thanks to his long frame, he is both a strong defender and solid rebounder, although his shot will need plenty of work.

Back in May during the week leading up to the NBA Draft Lottery, Daniels spoke about the possibility of joining the Kings while speaking on the Dyl & Friends podcast:

“I think probably like Sacramento, the Spurs, somebody who needs a guy that can help them and play a team system as well,” Dyson said of which teams he felt that he would fit with best.

“Whatever team that picks me up on the day, I will be happy with, because my dream as a kid was to be in the NBA, but there are a few teams that I probably could say I would fit better with them.”

It still isn’t entirely known what Kings general manager Monte McNair is thinking when it comes to Sacramento’s fourth-overall pick in the draft. Not knowing McNair’s thought process is a testament to the franchise’s ability to refrain from leaking information as they hope to bring a difference-maker to the 916.

Most mock drafts have the Kings selecting Purdue guard Jaden Ivey, but there have been whispers that Sacramento will be looking at other prospects like forwards Keegan Murray and AJ Griffin while also keeping the door open for the possibility that one of Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith or Paolo Banchero to falls to fourth.

Draft day is near, but the rumor mill is quiet.

Sacramento is holding its cards close to its vest for the 2022 NBA Draft thus far.
