Have you ever wondered how much Winter Games athletes make for earning a medal? Delish.com has the numbers to report.
For a gold medal, you get $37,000. Silver earns $22,500, and bronze gets you $15,000. In team sports, participants split those earnings.
Payouts started in 1994, and are made by private donors as opposed to taxpayer dollars.
Additionally, athletes aren’t taxed until they earn more than $1 million per year.
Other countries have similar practices, but the United Kingdom famously deprives their competitors of any prize money.
