Sacramento Republic FC fans are left holding their breath as Major League Soccer decides the fate of the team.
According to the Sacramento Bee, MLS may take another month to decide which team will be granted expansion.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber spoke to Sports Illustrated on Wednesday and said that the next expansion city will be announced “hopefully before the start of the season (in March).”
Garber also noted that officials are “just dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s” at this point.

Sacramento, Cincinnati and Detroit are all still in the running for the next MLS expansion.
Sacramento is in the middle of recruiting a billionaire investor to back the team, as a new $250 million stadium in the downtown railyard has been proposed.
Republic FC has the city’s approval for construction, and MLS approval or denial is expected in the coming weeks.
