The San Francisco 49ers are in the midst of a contract war with one their star wide receiver. But in the meantime, they have added another in Terrace Marshall Jr.
The 49ers announced Thursday that they have signed Marshall to the team’s practice squad, giving them another option in the passing game. While an immediate role is undefined at this time, given the climate of the current WR room, being elevated t the active roster on gameday is in the cards.
National insiders reported the news Wednesday, with the 49ers officially confirming it a day later.

Terrace Marshall Jr., 24, was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. A highly-acclaimed product of LSU, Marshall struggled to put it together in the NFL initially. 2022 was his best season thus far, hauling in 28 catches for 490 receiving yards and a touchdown. He also excelled as a deep threat, ranked near the top of qualifying wideouts at go routes.
However, he struggled to stay on the field a year later, only playing in nine contests in 2023. Now in Santa Clara, the Louisiana native will look to restart his NFL career on the west coast.
The 49ers are now carrying 10 WRs on both 53-man roster and practice squad. That includes Brandon Aiyuk, despite his reluctance to practice with the team. Because of the continued “hold-in”, and other injuries, Marshall finds a home with the 49ers. And until the 49ers find a resolution for Aiyuk, the former Carolina Panther will remain with the Red & Gold.
