Original Story:
While Christian McCaffrey looked good in his return to the practice field this week, the 49ers will take a final decision up to kickoff on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan announced Friday that the team’s star running back is officially questionable for Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, that is only a formality, with the 49ers expected to take McCaffrey off injured reserve ahead of Sunday.
“He’s good to go,” Shanahan said about CMC Friday.

Christian McCaffrey, 28, has been dealing with bilateral Achilles tendinitis since training camp. After being a late scratch in the lineup Week 1, the RB was shut down indefinitely after suffering a major setback ahead of Week 2. Now almost two months removed, Christian McCaffrey is back to his usual self, expected to add a jolt to the 49ers down the stretch run of the 2024 regular season.
Joining CMC as questionable is a few key players, including Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel.
The former is dealing with a hip pointer suffered during Wednesday’s practice, and will likely be a game-time decision Week 10. The latter is dealing with a rib and oblique injury at the moment. Both issues predate the 49ers’ bye week, as Samuel sported a blue non-contact jersey in practice.
Also questionable is safety Malik Mustapha with a calf injury. Newly-Signed veteran Tashaun Gipson Sr. could be elevated from the practice squad should the rookie be inactive.
Meanwhile, the 49ers will be without WR Chris Conley, DT Kevin Givens, CB Charvarius Ward and DL Yetur Gross-Matos against Tampa Bay.
Fellow WR Jauan Jennings (hip) has been cleared to play Week 10, returning after missing the previous two contests.
