The 49ers’ Week 3 trip to Los Angeles did not go to plan. But, if there’s a silver lining, it’s the play of Jauan Jennings.

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver had a career outing Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams. Filling in for the injured Deebo Samuel, Jennings popped off for 11 catches, 175 receiving yards and three touchdowns. In fact, all of the Red & Gold’s TDs Sunday went to Jennings, as he continued to get open against the Rams’ secondary.

Whether it was over the middle or streaking to the endzone, the Tennessee product got loose in LA. And while the 49ers as a whole would have preferred to heads him with the victory, Jennings’ contributions couldn’t go overlooked.

“Jauan was unbelievable. I mean, I think the numbers show it but more than the numbers, he was a warrior the whole game,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said postgame. “He’s always like that. Got a lot more opportunities today, and was automatic on every single one. Even some bad looks when I didn’t know if the ball should go there, you quickly saw after that they weren’t going to take that away from Jauan.”

Shanahan is subtly referring to one of the highlight plays of the contest made by Jauan Jennings.

Late in the third quarter, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy used play-action to try and push the football downfield. With pressure forcing him left, the gunslinger heaved a jump ball up to a Jennings. The wideout leaped over Rams’ defensive back Quinten Lake, snagging the rock from the opponent’s gasp. The play resulted in a 32-yard-gain, sending SoFi Stadium into a frenzy.

Safe to say the former seventh-round pick went above and beyond in Week 3.

“He was very inspiring today, how he played,” Shanahan added.

“He’s a dawg man. Absolutely love Jauan. Just the way he comes in every day and then brings energy to our offense man,” Purdy said about his teammate. “I’ll go to war with him any day of the week.”

Jauan Jennings, 27, signed a two-year, $15.39 million extension with the 49ers in the offseason. He has racked up 276 receiving yards, 18 catches and three touchdowns so far this season. His Week 3 play earned him a nomination for Fedex Air Player of the Week.
