Taking care of business the first two days of free agency, the 49ers have locked down another key free agent in Jake Brendel.
Reports surfaced Tuesday that San Francisco and center Jake Brendel had agreed to a four-year deal to remain in the Red & Gold. The deal is set for a maximum value of $20 million, with $8 million guaranteed. Joining the 49ers in 2021, the offensive lineman opts to stay on the west coast long-term.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first with the news.

Brendel, 30, took over for Alex Mack at center in 2022, playing in all 20 games for the 49ers. A journeyman before coming to the Bay, the UCLA product has found a home under Kyle Shanahan, only allowing one sack in 1078 snaps last season. He was also third amongst centers in pass-blocking efficiency (98.8), finishing with an overall 64.9 PFF grade.
The center was expected to have a robust market this offseason, with teams like the New York Jets vying for his signature. In the end though, Brendel opts to stick with familiarity over money by signing with San Francisco.
The 49ers will now keep four of their five starters from 2022 on the offensive line, losing RT Mike McGlinchey to the Denver Broncos.
