While it seemed ever likely as summer turned to fall, now it’s official: Ricky Pearsall is back on the 49ers practice field.
The San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick officially had his practice window opened Monday, now given 21 days to be activated off injuried reserve. Pearsall has been on the Non-Football Injury List (NFI) since the beginning of September. While he has three weeks, the 49ers’ rookie hopes to make his NFL debut Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
After 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned the move following Week 6’s win last Friday, it has now been made official by the team.

Ricky Pearsall, 24, has been sidelined since August 31st. The 49ers’ 2024 first-round pick was a victim of an attempted robbery outside Union Square, suffering a gunshot wound to the chest from the incident. While the situation was serious, Pearsall escaped with no vital organs or bones struck, able to be discharged from San Francisco General Hospital 24 hours later.
Now six weeks removed, Ricky Pearsall is back on the practice field with the 49ers.
The Arizona native will look to add more juice to an offense that has struggled in the redzone this season. However, he’ll have to earn his place on a superstar-loaded unit.
Nevertheless, his return to football is inspirational, only 44 days removed from a near-tragedy.
