It appears the 49ers got some good and bad injury news ahead of Week 4, with both Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams questionable for Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers have listed both offensive stars as questionable for Week 4’s clash with the New England Patriots. The former returned to practice Thursday, while the latter was added to the injury report after practice the same day.

49ers’ coach Kyle Shanahan made the announcement Friday.

Samuel missed Week 3 due to a calf strain suffered during Week 2’s loss to Minnesota Vikings. His return to practice Thursday was surprising, as the team expected him to miss a couple weeks.

Meanwhile, Trent Williams was added to injury report after missing practice Friday due to a toe injury. He complained of soreness following Thursday’s practice, subsequently missing the following day’s session, hence his questionable status for Sunday.

Additionally, safety Talanoa Hufanga rolled his ankle during Thursday’s practice, and will also be questionable for Week 4. The Oregon native made his 2024 season debut in Week 3 following a 10-month ACL recovery.

Furthermore, tests confirmed that linebacker Curtis Robinson suffered a torn ACL, and will be out the rest of the 2024 season. He was carted off during the media portion of practice Thursday with an apparent leg injury.

On a positive note, both quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle are cleared to play Week 4.

More on 49ers Deebo Samuel & Trent Williams

Deebo Samuel, 28, had a bounce-back 2023 campaign. He finished with 1117 scrimmage yards on 97 touches and 12 total touchdowns in 15 games. After a 2022 slump that saw him miss the most games since 2020, the South Carolina native responded with a more complete year for the 49ers in 2023.

Trent Williams, 36, is in his 14th year in the NFL, maintaining his status as one of the best left tackles in the NFL the last decade. He is an 11-time Pro Bowler, and a three-time All-Pro member. He has made all All-Pro selections during his 49ers’ tenure. In 2023, the Texas native posted an 89.9 Pro Football Focus grade.
