At the 11th hour, the 49ers have made a move, adding Khalil Davis to its’ defensive line.
Reports emerged Tuesday afternoon that the San Francisco 49ers are trading a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Houston Texans for defensive tackle Khalil Davis. Davis is expected to fit into SF’s rotation on the DL, adding some much needed run defense. After waiting all day to find the right move, general manager John Lynch has made his move at the literal deadline to do so.
The Athletic’s Diana Russini was first with the news, as local media confirmed the deal thereafter.

Khalil Davis, 28, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has played for three prior teams before the 49ers, including stints in Indianapolis and Houston. For the 2024 season, Davis has one sack, nine combined tackles and two quarterback hits.
He is known for his run defense as well as his versatility, able to line up across the defensive front. That will likely be his role in SF as well, beefing up one of the weakest units on the Red & Gold.
The 49ers as a whole have struggled to keep bodies healthy at DL. Pro Bowler Javon Hargrave is out for the 2024 season, while backups Jordan Elliott and Kevin Givens have dealt with nagging injuries.
