San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has one more hurdle to clear in the NFL’s concussion protocol before he can play Sunday. If that happens on Saturday, coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy will start against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Despite being listed as questionable, Purdy was a full participant at 49ers practice Friday.

“Nothing’s been different,” Kyle Shanahan said when asked about Purdy’s routine this past week. “I mean, he wasn’t allowed to go, he could only do walk-throughs the first day. So he missed a couple of periods with that, then we had helmets on versus the [defense].”
Also listed under the questionable designation was guard Trent Williams, who is dealing with an ankle injury. The vet did not play last Monday against the Minnesota Vikings, missing his first game of the season. Williams has not practiced all week. Shanahan said Williams practiced a little Friday, but “nothing against each other.”
“He’s gotta improve here in the next 48 hours, he can go up until kickoff though,” Shanahan said of Williams.
San Francisco officially ruled wide receiver Deebo Samuel out for Sunday, missing his third game of the season. Samuel is currently dealing with a hairline fracture in his shoulder and is expected to be re-evaluated after the team’s Bye in Week 9.
Deebo Samuel will be out for #CINvsSF. Trent Williams and Brock Purdy remain questionable.
