On the first day of joint practices in Las Vegas, a familiar foe came back to haunt the 49ers: The injury bug.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that several 49ers have suffered injuries this week, with wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud suffering the worst of the group. The versatile offensive weapon has suffered a broken left wrist that will require surgery, according to the coach. The timeline for his return is about eight weeks, putting him back on the field around Week 5 of the regular season.
McCloud, 26, joined the 49ers in 2022, primarily as a special-teams ace. The versatile wideout is used run a variety of roles for San Francisco, often receiving the ball in catch-and-run situations. McCloud stacked 14 catches for 243 receiving yards and one touchdown last season. He also added 78 rushing yards and 356 punt return yards as well.
The injury list doesn’t stop there for the 49ers unfortunately, suffering hits on both the offense and defense.

On offense, tight end George Kittle has picked up an adductor strain and will be out for about a week. Additionally, WR Danny Gray was held out of practice Thursday due to soreness from training camp.
Defensively, linebacker Dre Greenlaw picked up a hamstring strain Thursday, leaving practice with the Raiders early. Defensive end Drake Jackson was also missing in Vegas, suffering from hamstring tightness as well. Both players are expected to play big roles for the 49ers this season.
San Francisco is very familiar with the injury bug, suffering numerous causalities over the last few seasons. Although they have gotten through training camp rather unscathed, fatigue has started to set in, leading to injuries left & right.
