Kings sign Skal Labissiere to 10-day contract following Sabonis injury

According to Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings are signing Stockton big man Skal Labissiere to a 10-day contract.

Just minutes after announcing that two-time All-NBA center Domantas Sabonis would be missing at least one week with a grade one left hamstring sprain, the Sacramento Kings added added some temporary big man help.

According to ESPN‘s Shams Charania, the Kings are signing Skal Labissiere to a 10-day contract. The former Sacramento first-round pick in 2016 has spent the last two seasons with their G-League affiliate in Stockton.

In those years, he was named to the G Legaue Next Up Game, their All-Star equivalent.

Through 20 regular-season games played with Stockton this year, Labissiere is averaging 16.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 28.1 minutes.

Converting 59.4 percent of his looks this season, including 34.0 percent of his 2.7 three-point attempts per night, speaks to his intriguing offensive skillset at 6’10.

With Sabonis expected to miss at least a week, Jonas Valanciunas is the expected starter. Still, Skal Labissiere may get some opportunity if interim head coach Doug Christie doesn’t want to go small in their second unit with forward Trey Lyles.

Already facing the second-hardest remaining schedule over their final stretch of the 2024-25 season, the Sacramento Kings will now have to stay afloat without Domantas Sabonis for at least one week.

The two-time All-NBA center grabbed at his hamstring while running down the floor less than two minutes into their Saturday night action in Houston. Interim head coach Doug Christie called a timeout to cater to Sabonis, who did not return to action.

According to the Kings, Sabonis suffered a grade one left hamstring strain. “Sabonis will be listed as out and an update will be provided in (1) week.”

When is the next Sacramento Kings game?

Sacramento’s second game of their four-game road trip features a game with large Western Conference standings indications on Monday night.

The Kings (31-28) will face off against the Mavericks (32-29) in Dallas as both teams are in a three-way tie for the 8th seed, which also includes the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Dallas has been dealing with a slew of big man injuries, while the Kings are expected to be without big man Domantas Sabonis, who went down less than two minutes into their Satuday night action against the Houston Rockets.
