Sacramento Kings sign Terry Taylor to 10-day contract

As the Sacramento Kings await clarity on injured center Domantas Sabonis (ankle), they have made an addition to their roster ahead of Wednesday’s matchup against the NBA-best Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Kings have signed forward Terry Taylor to a 10-day contract.

Taylor, 25, has spent this season with Sacramento’s G-League affiliate in Stockton, where he holds averages of 17.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game over 28 appearances.

The Austin Peavy product is shooting 45 percent from the field and just under 40 percent from long distance this season for a Stockton Kings team currently holds the third seed in the G-League’s Western Conference standings.

Taylor has played power forward for the bulk of his four-year NBA career, which has included stops in Indiana and Chicago. The 6’5, 230-pound forward provides Sacramento with another big body at the forward position, an area of need for a Kings roster that lacks depth at the four.

One aspect of Taylor’s skillset that could be enticing to Sacramento is his 6’11.5 wingspan, longer than Sabonis or Keegan Murray’s on the current Kings roster.

Taylor averaged just 6.1 minutes per game with the Bulls in 2023-24, but his per-36 rebounding numbers grade out well (7.1) in a larger sample size.

If Sabonis is sidelined for an extended period, Sacramento will have to make things work in the frontcourt with Jonas Valanciunas, Keegan Murray, Trey Lyles, Jake LaRavia, and Taylor going forward.

All-NBA center Domantas Sabonis suffered multiple injuries against the Memphis Grizzlies–a laceration to his face that required stitches during the first quarter and a scary ankle injury that resulted in his departure in the second half–as the Kings were forced to complete the game without their prized big man.

Even with Sabonis sidelined, Sacramento locked in on both ends of the floor to defeat the Grizzlies by a final of 132-122, snapping a four-game losing streak to pull itself back over the .500 mark.

The Kings (34-33) were impressive across the board, shooting 48 from beyond the arc while scoring 21 points off 18 Memphis turnovers.

Sacramento, who remains three games ahead of the Phoenix Suns for a spot in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament, needs every win they can gather over the regular season’s final weeks, especially considering the brutal upcoming schedule.

Monday night was a strong start to a homestand that features matchups against Cleveland, Milwaukee, Boston, and Oklahoma City, but now the loss of Sabonis adds another hurdle to the Beam Team’s push for postseason basketball.

The Sacramento Kings will face the powerhouse Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center in the first leg of a back-to-back.

Cleveland, who recently had a 16-game winning streak snapped–the team’s third winning streak of at least 12 games this season–enters play on Wednesday with the best record in the NBA.
