The San Francisco 49ers locked down their franchise quarterback last week, signing Brock Purdy to a five-year, $265 million extension. But, according to recent reports, that deal does include a no-trade clause for Mr. Irrellevant.

According to Mike Garafolo, Purdy “received a full no-trade clause for the duration of the deal, sources tell The Insiders.”

While NFL players who have a no-trade clause is an exclusive list, it’s becoming more common for quarterbacks leaguewide.

QBs with the clause include Lamar Jackson (Baltimore), Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia), Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City), Jared Goff (Detroit), Kirk Cousins (Atlanta), Dak Prescott (Dallas), and Josh Allen (Buffalo).

It’s a wide variety of talent, with Brock Purdy potentially providing comparable production to Goff, Cousins, and Prescott. He has led the 49ers to multiple Super Bowl appearances.

At 25 years old, Purdy and the 49ers have their future secured. Their willingness to include a no-trade clause in the five-year contract likely speaks to their confidence in the young quarterback.

The San Francisco 49ers have locked down their quarterback of the future. According to multiple reports, quarterback Brock Purdy has agreed to a five-year, $265-million extension.

According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the “deal includes $181 million in overall guaranteed money.”

Purdy’s salary will be right around the upper-middle tier of quarterbacks, making comparable money to Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa, Detroit’s Jared Goff, and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence.

It’s a well-deserved payday for Brock Purdy, who famously was the final pick (Mr. Irrelevant) in the 2022 NFL Draft. 261 players were selected before the Iowa State quarterback. Unique circumstances led to him getting an early opportunity and he took advantage.
