Matt Barrows: Are the stars aligning for the 49ers this season?

The San Francisco 49ers are playing their best football of the season as the end of the regular season approaches.

During Monday morning’s edition of The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross, The Athletic’s Matt Barrows joined the show to react to the 49ers’ 37-24 win over the Tennessee Titans, contemplate if this postseason is shaping up to be San Francisco’s best shot at a Super Bowl in recent memory, and much more.

Plus, the guys discuss whether San Francisco (10-4) can beat any team in the NFC when operating at its best.

Are the 49ers on track for a big playoff run?

Following Sunday’s win over the Tians, San Francisco is in the thick of the chase for the top seed in the NFC Playoff picture.

San Francisco (10-4) remains one game behind fellow NFC West counterparts Seattle (11-3) and the Los Angeles Rams (11-3) with three regular-season games to go.

Although the 49ers may fall short of clinching the top seed in the NFC, they are still looking like a team that can win on any night, regardless of the opponent.

“They can beat any of these teams,” The Athletic’s Matt Barrows said of San Francisco’s place among NFC leaders.

“If I were the 49ers, I would want to go to Tampa Bay, or now that Micah Parsons is out for the season, Green Bay. I know that the Eagles are flawed, but the Eagles run the ball and have a great offensive line. That’s the team I would probably want to avoid the most.”

As the Faithful continue to push towards the postseason, head coach Kyle Shanahan was a large topic of conversation during Monday’s conversation with Barrows.

While Shanahan may not be the frontrunner for the NFL Coach of the Year Award, Barrows believes this is his best work yet in his nine seasons as 49ers head coach.

“To me, this is far and away Kyle Shanahan’s best season,” Barrows said. “Just because of the headwinds he’s had to deal with. You know, the consistency that the team’s had, consistency with inconsistent parts. That just kind of screams coaching and system.”

With three regular-season games remaining, Shanahan and San Francisco could still clinch the top seed in the NFC, but it will take some help.

Los Angeles would need to lose one of its three remaining games, while the 49ers would have to win out, including a win over the Seahawks in Week 18 at Levi’s Stadium.
