The second-year forward has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2019-20 season

In only his second season of NBA action, Marvin Bagley III has missed 71 of 150 games.

The 21 year-old will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a lateral right foot sprain, according to a press release from the Sacramento Kings. Per the release, Bagley will be held out for the remaining eight games and any possible postseason activity.

Over his 75 career games, Bagley holds averages of 14.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game.

The former Duke Blue Devil went down with a broken right thumb after the season opener on October 23rd and missed 23 games before returning on December 11th. His return would unfortunately be short lived, as Bagley would go on to injure his left foot on December 26th.

Bagley would return for four games in January before being ruled out indefinitely with a left foot injury.

After a four-month long hiatus due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Bagley was 100% healthy coming into training camp. Reports surfaced late Sunday night that the former number-two overall pick in the 2018 draft had suffered another injury.

Sacramento will need to push on with the forwards they have on their roster, with exhibition games beginning on Wednesday afternoon.

With Bagley out for the season, expect Harry Giles III to get minutes behind Nemanja Bjelica at the power-forward position. Kings center Richaun Holmes rejoined practices on Tuesday after a 10-day quarantine due to accidentally crossing the NBA Bubble boundaries.

Backup center Alex Len has started to participate in team workouts as of this week as well, providing the Kings with another big body to help fill the void that Bagley’s absence will leave in the lineup.
