It is purely a coincidence, at a time where Kings forward Marvin Bagley III is receiving a large amount of backlash amongst Kings fans, that he finally finished his “first NBA season”.
Let me explain.
At the conclusion of last night’s debacle vs the Warriors, Bagley completed his 82nd NBA game, representing a full season slate. Now obviously, it took him into his third actual season to get to that figure, but it allows us at least to take a step back and purely look at some numbers.
After 82, Bagley is averaging:
14.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, .5 steals and .9 blocks.
His FG/3p/FT splits are: 48.5/28.6/69.4
Keep in mind, Bagley has averaged 25.3 minutes per game over his career, so let’s look at his “per 36” numbers:
20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks. His splits obviously remain the same.
Now granted, you have to earn 36 minutes a night, and right now there are only 9 players this year averaging 36 or more minutes per game, so take that benchmark with a grain of salt.
I’d ask you to rate Bagley without the exterior noise, but I know that’s next to impossible. But keep in mind he’s still 21, and won’t turn 22 until March.
So two questions for you:
How would you rate Marvin Bagley’s “rookie” year?
And
Do you feel like he is progressing, regressing, or stagnant?
