Kings head coach Luke Walton told Jason Ross & Doug Christie that the rookie guard will not play in the team’s final two games prior to the break

Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton joined The Jason Ross & Doug Christie Show on Tuesday afternoon to share updates on injured guard Tyrese Haliburton.

Haliburton, the two-time Western Conference Rookie of the Month Award recipient, will not play on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers or on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers due to calf soreness.

Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton on Tyrese Haliburton’s injury

“He is doing much better, but with All-Star break coming up right after the back-to-back, the medical staff feels that it’s best to just really give him these next two days and make sure that he’s healthy for the second half of the season,” Walton said on Tuesday.

“He won’t play in these next two games, which is not great for us, but hopefully means that we will have a healthy Tyrese post All-Star (break).”

Haliburton currently holds season averages of 13.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game on 49-percent shooting from the field and 43-percent shooting from beyond the three-point line.

The 21-year-old was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for his impressive month of February, becoming the first Kings player since Isaiah Thomas to be honored in back-to-back months.

Interview with Kings head coach Luke Walton begins at the 27:30 mark
