Marvin Bagley III’s tenure in Sacramento has come to an end.

According to Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Kings have traded Bagley to the Detroit Pistons. Sacramento will receive guard Donte DiVincenzo from the Milwaukee Bucks–a player that general manager Monte McNair has coveted since the failed Bogdan Boganovic trade that was nixed during the the 2020 offseason.

Number-four pick from the 2017 Draft Josh Jackson and forward Trey Lyles will also be heading to Sacramento via Detroit to round out a four-team trade that also included the Los Angeles Clippers, who sent Serge Ibaka to the Bucks.

DiVincenzo, 25, has averaged 8.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game on 42-percent shooting from the field and 34-percent shooting from beyond the arc during his four years of NBA action.

McNair infamously almost acquired the guard during a potential sign-and-trade deal that would have sent former King Bogdan Bogdanovic to the Milwaukee Bucks, but the deal did not happen.

Finally, DiVencenzo is a King.

The former NCAA Champ and 2021 NBA champion with the Bucks is one of the better rebounding guards in the league, having posted 24 games with seven-or-more rebounds over the past two seasons.

For comparison, the only players on the active Kings roster with more are Domantas Sabonis, Richaun Holmes and Harrison Barnes, who are all 6’8 or taller.

With Lyles and Jackson in the fold, Sacramento currently has 17 players on the active roster, meaning that more moves are coming before the 12pm deadline.

Marvin Bagley III’s time in Sacramento will not be remembered fondly for a variety of reasons.

Failed expectations, injuries, off-court distractions, etcetera. At just 22 years old, Bagley will get a fresh start for a Detroit Pistons team that has been interested in the forward since last season’s deadline.

With Buddy Hield and Bagley off of the Kings roster, the locker-room is now clear of players that had made it clear they wanted out of Sacramento.
