ARCO Arena To Be Demolished In The Coming Months

The Sacramento Kings announced on Wednesday that the team’s old home will be torn down within the next six months to make way for a new medical school
Six years removed from playing their final game at ARCO Arena (also known as Sleep Train Arena and Power Balance Pavilion), the Sacramento Kings have announced that the old arena will be torn down before the end of September.
According to a release issued by the team on Wednesday, ARCO Arena will be demolished within the next six months to make way for a new development that will include a new medical school and state-of-the-art teaching hospital for students of California Northstate University.
The arena opened its doors in 1988 and hosted 28 seasons of Kings basketball, creating countless memories for many people around the Sacramento community and sports world.
To celebrate the memories created at ARCO Arena and give the building a final sendoff, the Kings will be holding a “Farewell to ARCO Arena” event on Saturday, March 19th at the arena’s location in North Natomas.
“As we close the final chapter of the arena in Natomas, we welcome fans to pay one last visit to the old barn,” said Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek RanadivĂ© in the release.
“That arena was widely known as the loudest place to play in the NBA, and the memories created there will last forever because one thing that remains consistent is the passion and devotion of our fans.”
