The Sacramento Kings have announced that center Domantas Sabonis has suffered a bruised left knee and will be reevaluated once the team returns from their five-game road trip.
Sabonis suffered no structural damage to his left knee and is expected to make a full recovery.
With just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter of Sunday’s game, Sabonis bumped knees with Phoenix forward Mikal Bridges. Following the contact, the 25-year-old went down and immediately grabbed at his left leg.
Much to the comfort of those watching, Sabonis got up and walked himself–under his own power–back to the Sacramento bench.
The center even remained in the game for one more possession, helping create a defensive stop before having to finally make his exit as he displayed clear discomfort while running down the floor.
Sabonis was seen walking–again, under his own power–to the locker room before the Kings announced that he would not return for the remainder of the game.
We all can take a deep breath now that we know Sabonis hasn’t suffered any structural damage.
With only nine games remaining in the regular season, it’s possible that the Kings choose to play it safe with their big man and sit him out for the entirety of the final stretch.
