The NBA offseason is about to enter its busiest stage as the Free Agency negotiation period is set to begin at 3:00 pm PST on Thursday.

Players and teams will be able to negotiate and agree to deals once the clock strikes 3 pm, but will not be able to put pen on paper until the league moratorium period is lifted on July 6th.

Be sure to stay locked into this feed as we follow all of the latest updates surrounding the Sacramento Kings:

Friday, July 1st

4:25 pm PST: Just 48 hours after the Kings declined to offer him a qualifying offer, guard Donte DiVincenzo has signed a two-year deal worth the Golden State Warriors that will be worth $9.3 million, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Per the report, DiVincenzo will have a player option in year two.

10:10 am PST: The Sacramento Kings have acquired guard Kevin Huerter from the Atlanta Hawks in return for guard Justin Holiday, forward Moe Harkless, and a future first-round pick, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In the deal, Sacramento is sending a 2024 lottery-protected first-round pick to the Hawks. The pick becomes top-12 protected in 2025, and top-10 protected in 2026.

4:22 pm PST: Our very own Carmichael Dave with the latest on Sacramento’s pursuit of Atlanta forward John Collins:

3:45 pm PST: According to Matt George of ABC 10, there “is not much interest” in Kings center Richaun Holmes on the trade market.

Per the report, new head coach Mike Brown is a “big fan” of the center and it’s likely that Holmes begins the 2022-23 season in Sacramento. Holmes was in attendance during Brown’s introductory press conference that took place at Golden 1 Center a few weeks ago.

3:20 pm PST: Former Kings center Damian Jones has reached a two-year agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Jones was impressive during the final stretch of the season as Sacramento’s starting center while Domantas Sabonis was sidelined due to a knee injury.

In nine games as Sacramento’s starting center, Jones looked like a starting-caliber big man:

  • 17.0 PTS
  • 7.0 REB
  • 2.0 AST
  • 1.6 BLK
  • 72% FG
  • 44% 3PT
  • 29.7 MIN

The 27-year-old will return to the Lakers and likely act as a backup to All-Star big man Anthony Davis.

3:00 pm PST: That didn’t take long.

Not even 15 seconds into the free agency period, multiple reports indicated that the Sacramento Kings have reached an agreement with guard Malik Monk on a two-year deal worth $19 million.

Over 76 games in 2021-22, Monk averaged career-highs across the board: 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. The 6’3 guard also shot a career-best 47 percent from the field to go along with a very efficient 39 percent rate from beyond the three-point stripe.

1:40 pm PST: It appears as if the Kings will reach an agreement with free-agent guard Malik Monk shortly after the free agency period opens at 3:00 pm PST.

Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee reports that he is “getting strong indications” that Monk will reach an agreement with Sacramento on Thursday evening.

1:20 pm PST: During a live broadcast on the podcast app ‘Callin’, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer stated that the Kings are considered “the leading candidate” to sign free agent guard Malik Monk.

8:05 am PST:
During Thursday morning’s edition of The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that John Collins remains “a viable option” for the Kings.

9:51 pm PST: According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, there is mutual interest between the Sacramento Kings and guard Malik Monk.

Monk, a former college teammate of Kings guard De’Aaron Fox at Kentucky, enjoyed a breakout season with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021-22.

Over 76 games, Monk averaged career-highs across the board: 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. The 6’3 guard also shot a career-best 47 percent from the field to go along with a very efficient 39 percent rate from beyond the three-point stripe.

4:15 pm PST: The Kings have guaranteed forward Chimezie Metu’s $1.9 million contract for the 2022-23 season.

New Kings head coach Mike Brown has ties to the 25-year-old from their time with the Nigerian men’s basketball team. The 6’9 forward enjoyed a career year in 2021-22, starting in a career-high 20 games under former head coach Luke Walton and interim head coach Alvin Gentry.

2:14 pm PST: Sacramento will not extend a qualifying offer to guard Donte DiVincenzo, making the 25-year-old an unrestricted free agent. DiVincenzo will now be able to sign with any team that he chooses once free agency opens up on Thursday.
