Has Jimmy Garoppolo resumed throwing? That’s the latest news according to new reports.

The San Francisco 49ers‘ veteran QB has been sidelined from football activities since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery in March, halting any rumored trade talk surrounding Garoppolo and his camp. But with training camp right around the corner, those talks have restarted in recent days.

Matt Barrows of The Athletic reported Tuesday that according to his sources, Garoppolo has been throwing for multiple weeks now.

“According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Garoppolo resumed throwing two to three weeks ago,” Barrows wrote. “His March surgery was performed by Los Angeles orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has a strong track record with the 49ers. ElAttrache handled the ACL surgeries for Garoppolo (2018), Nick Bosa (2020) and Solomon Thomas (2020), and each had the best season of his career the year following the surgery.

“ElAttrache has been working in conjunction with the 49ers while Garoppolo has been rehabilitating in the Los Angeles area. He’s expected to make a full recovery.”

Two teams that may be vying for the signal-caller, the Seahawks and the Texans, seem like long shots, according to Barrows, as Jimmy G is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

“Both are in rebuilding mode,” the report added. “With a strong class of college quarterbacks on the horizon, it’s hard to see either giving up much in draft compensation or salary cap space, especially considering that Garoppolo is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March.”

The Browns may also emerge as a possible trade destination but we’ll have to wait and see how the Deshaun Watson situation plays out.

Barrows’ report falls in line with other national reporters, including NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, reporting Monday that the expectation within the league is that Garoppolo is traded by the end of the month.

We’ll have to see if Garoppolo is ultimately dealt, but one thing is certainly clear: Jimmy G’s time in the Bay is coming to an end.
