The nickname ‘King Keegan’ just took on a whole new meaning for Keegan Murray.

Following a very impressive showing in the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League, the Sacramento Kings’ rookie has been named Most Valuable Player of the yearly summer showcase.

For the second time in as many years, a member of the Kings has taken home MVP honors in Las Vegas as last year’s ninth-overall pick Davion Mitchell secured the award in 2021–along with a Summer League title for Sacramento.

Since 2006, only the Los Angeles Lakers have had Summer League MVPs in back-to-back Summer Leagues (2017, 2018).

Over four appearances in Vegas, the fourth-overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft averaged 23.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and  1.3 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 80 percent from the charity stripe. Because of his play, Murray was also named All-NBA Summer League First Team.

According to the Kings, Murray posted the highest point per game average at Summer League by a top-10 pick since 2012. Murray was the only player this summer to average at least 20.0 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.

Murray looked every bit like a top-pick during both Summer League, seemingly posting 20-plus points per game in effortless fashion. The future appears bright for Sacramento’s new draft pick as Murray will next suit up this fall alongside star guard De’Aaron Fox, All-Star center Domantas Sabonis and fellow Summer League MVP award winner, Davion Mitchell.
