Here Are The 2022 MLB Draftees With Ties To The Sacramento Region

The 2022 MLB draft is in the books and more than a handful of players selected have ties to the Greater Sacramento Region.

Some were born and raised here, others just attended college for a year or two.

The first two rounds of the MLB Draft took place over the weekend, with rounds 3-10 taking place Monday and concluding on Tuesday with rounds 11-20. The first two picks by the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks were the sons of former MLB players, Jackson Holliday and Druw Jones, the sons of Matt Holliday and Andruw Jones.

Here are all of the 2022 MLB draftees with ties to the Sacramento region:

Daniel Susac – Round 1, pick 19 by the Oakland A’s

The Roseville native and Jesuit High School alumni entered the draft as a top 20 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.

According to a press release from the A’s, their new catcher, “ batted .351 with 43 doubles, three triples, 24 home runs, 126 RBI, a .412 on-base percentage, and a .586 slugging percentage in 125 games over two collegiate seasons.”

T.J. Czyz – Round 12, pick 364 by the Oakland A’s

The Athletics selected multiple players with ties to the Sacramento region. The right-handed pitcher from Truckee went 7-3 with a 2.96 ERA in 15 games for Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.

Zach Morgan – Round 7, pick 226 by the San Francisco Giants

According to a press release from the Giants, the Stockton native was a finalist for the “Buster Posey National Catcher of the Year Award after starting all 55 games at catcher in 2022 while posting a .381 batting average (led team and ranked fifth in the conference) with eight home runs and 41 RBI.”

Thomas Gavello – Round 13, pick 406 by the San Francisco Giants

The Giants went back to the San Joaquin Valley for infield help. Gavello, a native of Danville, played for the University of the Pacific in Stockton, where he led the team in home runs and RBI’s.

Nick Vogt – Round 7, pick 210 by the San Diego Padres

The right-handed outfielder is a native of Woodland before taking his talents to UC Santa Barbara, where he would hit .347 his junior year.

Eli Saul – Round 13, pick 378 by the Arizona Diamondbacks

The Canadian played college ball for the Sac State Hornets, where the right-handed pitcher has a lifetime ERA of 5.72.

Hunter Hayes – Round 16, pick 487 by the St. Louis Cardinals

The Citrus Heights native played for both Folsom Lake College and the University of the Pacific Tigers, where the right-handed pitcher led the Tigers in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Andrew Owen – Round 14, pick 409 by the Texas Rangers

The Turlock native is a right-handed pitcher who played for Grossmont College in Southern California.

Devereaux Harrison – Round 9, pick 278 by the Toronto Blue Jays

The Vacaville native attended school at Long Beach State where in 2020 and 2021, he posted a 1.32 and 1.57 ERA, respectively.
