Bill Russell’s legacy will forever be remembered as one of the greatest on and off an NBA court.

Ahead of the 1987-88 season, Russell signed a seven-year contract to coach the Sacramento Kings. However, he didn’t even last one season. Russell finished with a 17-41 record. He lasted one more season as the team’s general manager.

In total, Russell won 11 NBA championships, 5 MVP awards and was named to 12 All-Star Games, among many other accolades.

Jerry Reynolds, renowned broadcaster for the Kings, was one of Russell’s assistants and replaced the legend to finish the 87-88 season. He joined The Carmichael Dave Show With Jason Ross Monday to discuss the legend and his impact on the Sacramento Kings.

Topics discussed include:

  • How the Bill Russell Jerry knew compared to his public image
  • What the announcement of Bill Russell joining the Kings was like in 1987
  • How Bill Russell’s legacy impacted the NBA years later
  • Bill Russell the player vs Bill Russell the coach
