49ers WR Marcus Johnson In Concussion Protocol After Fred Warner Cheap Shot, Says Kyle Shanahan

Tuesday’s fight between San Francisco 49ers players Fred Warner and Brandon Aiyuk has left a few ramifications for the team, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Friday morning.

Shanahan informed the media prior to practice that wide receiver Marcus Johnson has been placed in concussion protocol after sustaining a hit by Warner during Tuesday’s training camp session. The “cheap shot” is what sparked the fight between the All-Pro linebacker and third-year wideout Brandon Aiyuk, resulting in a scrum that had to be separated by Shanahan.

The 49ers coach acknowledged that Warner’s hit was “an unnecessary shot” and that he “understood” Aiyuk’s position to defend his teammate.

In light of injuries to the WR group, the 49ers will be working out former Las Vegas Raider Willie Snead at practice today, possibly serving as depth to Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.

Snead has garnered over 3400 receiving yards and 16 TDs in his nine years in the NFL, a proven veteran the will only bolster the Red & Gold’s WR group if he is indeed signed.

The San Francisco 49ers are working out quarterback James Morgan today, per a league source, along with wide receiver Willie Snead one day after Snead worked out for Cardinals and Morgan worked out for Seahawks. Morgan has also worked out recently for Green Bay Packers

Additionally, OL Jaylon Moore will miss time due to a lower leg strain, according to Shanahan Friday. An exact timeline is unknown at the moment.

UPDATE: The 49ers have also waived WR Taysir Mack, according to team reporter Lindsey Pallares.
