Former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore has been charged with simple assault following an alleged incident last month in Atlantic City.

According to a press release from the Atlantic City Police Department, around 8 a.m. on July 31, officers were called to the Tropicana Atlantic City – Boardwalk Resort & Casino for a report of domestic violence. Upon arrival, police saw a 28-year-old woman talking to hotel security. Police said in the release the woman “did not exhibit signs of injury.”

Following their investigation, police eventually charged Gore, 39, with simple assault.

Earlier this summer, Frank Gore signed a one-day contract with the San Francisco 49ers before retiring from the NFL. Along with the 49ers, Gore played a total of 241 games for the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. He totaled 16,000 career rushing yards, the third most in NFL history behind Walter Payton and Emmit Smith.

Gore finished his 49ers career leading the team in rushing yards, rushing attempts, and rushing touchdowns. The only other 49ers player with more yards from scrimmage in team history is wide receiver Jerry Rice. Following his retirement, Gore was also inducted into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame.
