Could the Cleveland Browns still have interest in Jimmy Garoppolo?

According to a report Thursday from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Cleveland Browns “will consider acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo if Deshaun Watson’s six-game suspension significantly increases upon appeal.”

Watson is awaiting to hear how many games he will be suspended. Initially, Watson was given a six-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy by Judge Sue. L Robinson. The NFL appealed that ruling and last week, commissioner Roger Goodell named Peter C. Harvey, a former New Jersey attorney general, to lead the appeal.

Watson has been accused of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage therapy sessions during his time with the Houston Texans. The 26-year-old quarterback has denied any wrongdoing and has not been criminally charged for the accusations levied against him. Earlier this summer, Watson reached settlements with 20 of the 24 women who accused him of sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions. The day Judge Robinson’s initial decision was released, three of the four remaining civil cases against Watson were settled.

Jacoby Brissett is currently the backup quarterback to Watson.

Garoppolo was recently listed as the 49ers’ fourth-string quarterback, a move coach Kyle Shanahan said was an obligation. The former starting quarterback for the 49ers has been at training camp, but not involved in day-to-day activities as he continues rehab on a recently repaired shoulder.
