The NFL is back!

Well the preseason at least as the San Francisco 49ers travel to Minnesota this week for their second preseason game with the Vikings Saturday, August 20th.

Prior to Saturday, the Red & Gold joined the Vikings for joint practices Wednesday and Thursday, both sides eager to run the playbook against the opposing NFC team. The trip also serves as a bit of a homecoming for second-year quarterback Trey Lance, growing up three hours away in Marshall, MN. Nevertheless, the time for a reunion will have to wait, as both the players and coaching staff are locked in on the upcoming season.

“I was excited for sure,” Lance said Wednesday. “I get to see my family, see some friends but I mean it’s work at this point. These two days of practice should be awesome for us, and Saturday as well.”

Of course preseason wins or losses don’t mean anything to the team’s overall record for the season, but the coaches are just looking for young guys to go out and give it there all for 60 minutes.

“The win for me in preseason games, it’s really [to] see those guys, who are young guys right, to see those guys when the lights come on, just to see them go out and perform,” defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans said last week. “They went out in games and played well. High school, college and now I’m happy for guys to get to showcase that on an NFL level. So a win for me is just to see our guys go out and compete at a high level, playing great technique and make plays, that will be a win for me.”
