San Francisco 49ers fans who watched Thursday night’s preseason finale were only able to check it out on one platform. That’s because Amazon Prime is now the official home of Thursday Night Football for the NFL.

Prior to 2022, the streaming platform simulcasted the games with either FOX or CBS. Dan Kaplan, an NFL reporter for The Athletic, joined Cattles & Ramie on Thursday to discuss the NFL’s streaming strategy and how not fans will be impacted, especially if the NFL decides to join more streaming platforms.

Topics discussed include:

  • Amazon Prime and streaming’s great leap into NFL games
  • Does the NFL expect any growing pains moving to a full-streaming platform?
  • What will the NFL Sunday Ticket look like if it leaves DirectTV? And if it does, which platform is likely to pick it up?
  • There is no slowing down the NFL and its contracts
  • Details about the FanDuel television network and if they can carve out a niche audience
  • How has the legalization of gambling impacted sports leagues?
