UPDATE: 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) is questionable for Week 6 at Atlanta, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Friday.

Original Story:

A big step in the right direction for Nick Bosa, as the 49ers pass rusher returned to the practice field Friday.

Bosa, 24, suffered a groin strain during Week 5’s contest against the Carolina Panthers. The injury occurred in the first half, hampering him early in the third quarter before he was pulled from the game all together.

The defensive end has spent the week in West Virginia recovering from said injury, unable to practice both Wednesday and Thursday before making it to the field for Friday’s light session.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan eluted to Bosa possibly playing in Atlanta, but that he was still not healthy enough to practice earlier in the week.

“I know he’s got a chance to play, but doesn’t feel good enough to go today, so hopefully he’ll be better tomorrow,” Shanahan said Wednesday.

Bosa was present during the media portion of Friday’s walkthrough, but reports indicate he was used in only “limited individual work”.

San Francisco’s star DE leads the league in most major categories, including pressures and sacks, through the first five weeks of the regular season.

Shanahan’s official Week 6 injury report comes at 10:30 a.m. PST Friday, we’ll have to wait and see what Bosa’s chances of playing this week actually are.
