Sacramento Natives Battle It Out In World Series

Sacramento will be well-represented in the 2022 MLB World Series.

On Sunday, the Houston Astros swept the New York Yankees in the American League Championship. The Astros manager, Dusty Baker, moved to the Sacramento area when he was in his teens. In 2010, Baker was inducted into the Sac-Joaquin Section’s Hall of Fame because he was a stand-out athlete at Del Campo High School.

This is his second appearance with the Astros in the World Series and third overall. From 1993 – 2002, Baker managed the San Francisco Giants, where in his final year, he took the team to the World Series.

Baker still has ties in the Sacramento region. The Baker Family Wines is located in West Sacramento.

Earlier that same day, the Philadelphia Phillies clinched the National League Championship series against the San Diego Padres. One of the players leading the Phillies was Rhys Hoskins, who was selected in the fifth round in the 2014 MLB draft out of Sacramento State.

The former Hornet blasted a two-run home run Sunday off Padres pitcher Yu Darvish.

The World Series kicks off Friday, Oct. 28, in Houston.
