49ers Trade RB Jeff Wilson Jr. to the Miami Dolphins

Always working the phones, general manager John Lynch has done it again.
The San Francisco 49ers have traded running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. San Francisco will get a 2023 fifth-round pick for the veteran tailback’s services.
Wilson, 26, has been with the 49ers since joining the team as an underrated free agent in 2018. Starting much of the regular season in place of Elijah Mitchell (MCL), the Texas native has rushed for 468 yards, while also catching 10 passes for 91 yards. He has two touchdowns through the first eight games of the 2022 season.

Already making a big trade for Christian McCaffrey this season, the 49ers seemed set with their roster heading into the trade deadline, confident that the roster they had was good enough to make a run.
“I think we’re pretty set,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said regarding the trade deadline Monday. “I’d be pretty surprised if something goes down.”
He didn’t rule it out, however, stating that the team will always listen to trade calls and that they have.
Wilson now joins head coach Mike McDaniel, his former run game and offensive coordinator with SF, in South Beach as they push to make the playoffs in a close AFC North race. McDaniel served under Shanahan from 2017 to 2021, taking hold of the team’s excellent rushing attack the last few years.
McDaniel’s Dolphins are 5-3 through eight weeks of the year, now adding another versatile tailback to the locker room.
