Christian McCaffrey Named NFC Offensive Player Of The Week

On Sunday, Christian McCaffrey threw, ran, and caught a touchdown in the 49ers’ win against the Rams. The touchdown turkey was a first in his career and the first time that’s happened in the NFL since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2005.
Now, he’s adding another first to his career.
On Wednesday, the NFL announced Christian McCaffrey was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, a first in the running back’s seven-year career. The last time a San Francisco 49ers running back was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week was in 2009, when Frank Gore did it twice.
Minnesota Vikings linebacker Za’Darius Smith was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week and Seattle Seahawks tight end Will Dissly was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Over on the AFC side, another running back was named player of the week. The Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry rushed for 219 yards and scored two touchdowns as he led his team to victory over the Houston Texans. This is the seventh time in his career Henry was named player of the week. Kicker Nick Folk of the New England Patriots and defensive end Dre’Mont Jones of the Denver Broncos won Special Teams and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Christian McCaffrey and the San Francisco 49ers are on their Bye Week but return in Week 10 to face the Los Angeles Chargers.
