Las Vegas Raiders Release Former First-Round Pick Johnathan Abram

So far this season, the Las Vegas Raiders have blown three separate 17-point leads.

The organization might finally have had enough.

According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Raiders have released safety Johnathan Abram. The former first-round pick has tallied 48 combined tackles so far this season. The team confirmed the news later in the afternoon.

Pelissero goes on to say that since Abram was cut after the trade deadline, he’ll go on waivers.

This isn’t the first time the team cut a former first-round pick this season. Alex Leatherwood, the 17th pick in the 2021 draft, was waived by the team following preseason games. The last four first-round picks by the Raiders — Henry Ruggs III, Damon Arnette, Alex Leatherwood, and now Johnathan Abram — are no longer on the team.

The organization also declined options for former first-round picks Josh Jacobs and Clelin Ferrell.
