Josh McDaniels Says He Doesn’t Have ‘Any Issue With The Effort’

Are there players on the Las Vegas Raiders not giving enough effort?

That’s the question that’s bounced back and forth between the quarterback, receiver, and coach after Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

While speaking to the media after the game, Derek Carr said the team’s leaders addressed the locker room about the team’s effort. Wide receiver Davante Adams echoed those same sentiments at his locker, saying there just aren’t “enough guys that are fully bought in.”

"Just don't got enough guys that are fully bought into that right now. I think people like the idea, but when it's time to execute – it don't turn out that way."

But on Monday, coach Josh McDaniels said while the leaders have “a really good pulse on what they think we may need relative to energy, or practice, or mindset” he doesn’t have an issue with the team’s overall effort.

“I can’t speak to what he was referring to, specifically. But in my opinion, when you see us out there fighting and grinding and playing hard, and we’re right there at the end of the game,” McDaniels said. “I don’t have any issue with the effort or competition that I saw on the field yesterday at all.”

When asked for his thoughts about leaders like Carr and Adams expressing that opinion, McDaniels said it shows they care.

“There’s a lot of guys in the locker room and not every player takes winning and losing the same,” Josh McDaniels said. “Some guys take it some ways, some guys take it harder. Some guys don’t deal with it that way. I’ve never tried to get too caught up into that because I think that’s trying to make every player the same after a win or a loss. That’s tough sledding. We’re not the same kind of people.”

McDaniels went on to say he also appreciates how much these leaders care about the organization.

“Sometimes the raw emotion of a leader is a good thing to see, you don’t see that every day,” McDaniels said. “So, I appreciate that, and I know how hard they work, how much they put into every week to try to do the best they can to help us.”
