Twas the night before Christmas, in the cold Steel City, the Raiders tried to hold onto another halftime lead, but it didn’t end pretty.

There was no miracle from old Saint Nick as quarterback Derek Carr ended the game with his third pick.

And as much as I’d love to continue this recap in the stylings of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas poem, there isn’t much to say about Saturday’s 13-10 loss in Pittsburg. According to ESPN, the Raiders have lost five games when leading at halftime. This is also the team’s eighth loss this season by less than a touchdown.

What makes matters even worse, Las Vegas lost linebacker Denzel Perryman to a shoulder injury and defensive end Chandler Jones to an elbow injury. In his post-game press conference, coach Josh McDaniels did not have any updates on the two injuries.

The cold weather looked like it impacted the game, with both teams straining to consistently string together long drives and either punting or kicking field goals. After the Raiders’ touchdown on their first drive, the Black and Silver failed to get into the endzone again for the rest of the game.

After the Steelers took a 13-10 lead with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Raiders had a chance to tie or win the game. However, two plays into the drive, Derek Carr threw his third interception. This is the second game this season where he recorded three picks in a game. After the game, McDaniels said there were too many mistakes and self-inflicted errors throughout the game.

“If you lose the turnover battle in this league, most of the time you lose the game,” McDaniels said.

Who’s Next For The Raiders?

The Black and Silver return home to face off against their old Bay Area rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.
