After seven weeks under center, 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy remains undefeated in the NFL.

While San Francisco hasn’t lost since October, Purdy only took over the reigns in early December for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. The rook has only grown with the team since, having his best outing in his first playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks last Saturday.

Despite being the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Purdy hasn’t been fazed by the pressure at all the last two months. In fact, he’s embraced it, simply because he loves playing the game of football.

“It’s just been football man. I don’t try to make it more than it is,” Purdy said after practice Thursday. “I’m a faith-based guy so that’s how I stay grounded…At the end of the day, I know that we’re not defined by the wins or losses as a person. That’s not who I am. I wasn’t born just to be a quarterback, play football, and that’s it. Like I have a life and everything like that and I remember that. But at the same time I’m a competitor, I love to compete. I want to win at all costs. And so I’ve been enjoying that as well.”

Looking to go 8-0 in the NFL, Purdy and the 49ers will have their toughest challenge yet with the Dallas Cowboys rolling into town Sunday.

Off the heels of a dominant win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night, Purdy is expecting a big challenge in the NFC divisional round. That doesn’t shy him away from the moment though, excited to show what he, and the team, are capable of to the national audience once again.

“They’re just talented across the board,” Brock Purdy stated about his opponents. “They pay attention to detail in [the] pass rush, which I feel like is a good challenge for us. We’ve played a handful of teams that do a good job and are well coached up front, but these guys are probably one of the best at it.”

Any game between San Francisco and Dallas is always met with a little more animosity as well. A rivalry stemming back to the 1980s, Purdy is aware and excited to be a part of the history of these two historic NFC franchises.

“Obviously, in the 90s, they went at it. There’s a lot of history, there’s a Super Bowls between the two organizations. And so to be a part of it, I’m very thankful, It’s pretty cool. I’ve seen all these highlights in the 90s, and now [to] fast forward to 2023 and here we are. Same two teams going at it, fighting for the same thing, which is pretty cool,” Purdy said.

Although it’s a storybook game with a storybook situation, Purdy won’t make more of it. Because to him, it’s just another football game that he wants to win.

“I just look at it like we just want to win, we want to do our part, and all the other stuff will fall into place. It’s not like ‘damn, this is going to be some kind of Netflix documentary or anything like that’. I’m not trying to make it bigger than that, but I’m very thankful to be part of it,” Brock Purdy explained.
