It’s been nearly a month since the Las Vegas Raiders benched Derek Carr, essentially ending his career with the Black and Silver.

The Las Vegas Raiders extended Derek Carr last spring to a three-year, $121.5 million extension, but have not yet made any moves on the future of their quarterback. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes a trade could be made sooner than later.

“I’m told that he’s started to do his homework on prospective teams. He has a no-trade clause, so he’s got a lot of power here. The teams I talk to expect a variation of the Saints, the Commanders, and the Jets to all inquire. I’m told some teams have already made some early initial calls to the Raiders but still in the process of coming out of the season. There’s not a lot of traction yet. Expect this to heat up closer to the Super Bowl.”

NFL insiders have reported that if the team does not trade Derek Carr by Feb. 15, they will release him.

One team Fowler did not mention on Sportscenter but did online was the Houston Texans. The NFL reporter said an AFC coach told him not to sleep on the team that drafted Carr’s brother years ago.

“Nick will be looking for a high-character quarterback. That will be important to him,” the coach said. “Derek fits that mold.” And he’s got a natural tie to Houston — his brother, David, was the franchise’s first-ever pick in the NFL draft, No. 1 overall in 2002.

If the Raiders get rid of their quarterback, they’ll need a replacement. Following his report on Carr, Fowler said if Tom Brady decides to continue playing, “the Raiders believe they’ll be a player” to acquire the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.
