On Friday, the A’s announced longtime River Cats announcer Johnny Doskow is joining their broadcast team in Oakland. In a press release, the A’s said Doskow would be involved in pregame, play-by-play, and postgame coverage for over 65 spring training and regular season games. Doskow will also be a contributor for A’s Cast Live.

Johnny, who spent 22 years as the River Cats broadcaster, joined the Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Tuesday to talk about being called up to the majors.

Topics discussed include:

  • Which games he knows he’ll join the broadcast team for the Oakland A’s
  • “I’m just so happy to be a part of it man. It’s just amazing to get there after this long. Guys don’t usually get in at 56 [years old], so to be a rookie at 56, I’m just really grateful.”
  • What excites him the most of being able to call the majors
  • How the promotion came about with the Oakland A’s
  • Who Johnny was most excited to tell about this opportunity
  • What he’s going to miss the most about working in the minor leagues
  • “There’s something special about the dailiness of minor league baseball, the promotions and just being on the road. There’s something special about being with the team, too, because you’re kind of like a rock and roll band of 35 people.”
