Despite not finishing the 2022 regular season as a starter for the Raiders, Derek Carr is heading back to Las Vegas for one more ride in the Pro Bowl.

Carr was named to the Pro Bowl roster Tuesday, rounding out the list for AFC quarterbacks this year. Joining him is Jacksonville Jaguars’ QB Trevor Lawrence and Baltimore Ravens’ QB Tyler Huntley.

The initial list of Pro Bowlers for the AFC was Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be in the Super Bowl in less than two weeks, Allen has been dealing with injuries all season, and Burrow simply declined to attend the event.

Down to the league’s list of alternates, most QBs are actually injured at the end of the season, causing a wacky list of participants that even the players are surprised by.

“Well…maybe this invitation got lost in the mail from past seasons but I’m going back to pro bowl #4. See you soon Vegas!” Derek Carr tweeted after the announcement was made Tuesday.

2022 has been anything but a Pro Bowl-caliber season for the longtime Raider signal-caller, getting benched in the final two weeks of the season for Jarrett Stidham. Asked to stay away from the team, Carr and the Raiders seem to be heading towards a move elsewhere in the next month.

The QB has a opt-out in his deal approaching. If Carr is unable to pass a physical by Feb. 15th, the remaining $40.4 million in 2024 will be guaranteed. Las Vegas can either find a trade partner, or release the QB outright before the deadline.

Drafted by the Raiders in 2014, Carr likely finishes his tenure with 35,222 passing yards, 217 touchdowns and 99 interceptions. He sports a 63-79 record as a starter in the NFL.
