We’ve finally made it football fans, welcome to the week of Super Bowl LVII.

This year’s Big Game will feature the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. Sunday’s clash will also make history, being the first time two African-American quarterbacks (Jalen Hurts & Patrick Mahomes) will face off against one another in a Super Bowl. The game will air on FOX at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

This year, the greater Sacramento area will have a few representatives at the Big Game, with two of them coming from the same school.

Let’s take a look at our Sacramento Super Bowl contestants this Sunday.

Shane Steichen

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is a proud graduate of Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills where he played quarterback.

A two-star prep QB, Steichen enrolled at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Playing in 23 collegiate games, Steichen threw for 2755 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

After his playing career, the Oak Ridge alum joined various programs as an assistant coach before getting his first OC opportunity with the LA Chargers in 2020. Joining the Eagles in 2021, Steichen has gone 23-11 in two seasons in Philly. The Eagles finished the 2022 regular season with the third-highest scoring offense (28.1 PPG) and third in the league in total yards (389.1 PPG).

Catching the eye of other organizations, Steichen is seen as one of the finalists for the Indianapolis Colts’ HC position, taking a second interview with the team over the weekend.

Ian Book

On the players’ side, Eagles’ backup QB Ian Book will represent Sacramento Sunday. Book, a standout prep QB at Oak Ridge, threw for 78 touchdowns and 7,632 yards in three seasons as the Trojans’ starter.

The standout prospect took his talents to Notre Dame where he became the winningest signal-caller in program history. Throwing for 8,948 career yards and 72 total touchdowns as a member of the Fighting Irish, Book finished college with the second-most TDs at Notre Dame.

Entering the draft in 2021, Book was selected with the 133rd overall pick by the New Orleans Saints. In his lone NFL start, Book finished with 135 passing yards, zero TDs and two INTs in a losing effort against the Miami Dolphins in 2021.

He was waived by the Saints on August 30, 2022, before getting signed by the Eagles one day later.

Mike Pereira

Also joining the Sacramento group this season is FOX Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira.

A Stockton native, Pereira currently resides in Sacramento when he is away from his role as a rules analyst. Pereira has been with the company since 2010, joining them after serving as an NFL referee from 1996 to 2010. He is used sporadically during a game, brought on if there is a challenge of review on the field.
