With Super Bowl week coming to a close, the NFL Honors shines a spotlight on individuals that out-kicked their coverage during the 2022 season. From the most valuable player to the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award, the NFL Honors show showcases the best the league has to offer.

Below you’ll find a recap of the events that transpired Thursday night, including who took home the awards.

Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2023

  • CB Ken Riley (senior)
  • Joe Klecko (senior)
  • Chuck Howely (senior)
  • CB Rondé Barber

  • LB Zach Thomas

AP Comeback Player of the Year

Winner: Seahawks’ QB Geno Smith

AP Coach of the Year

Winner: Giants’ HC Brian Daboll

AP Defensive Rookie of the Year

Winner: Jets’ CB Sauce Gardner

The No. 4 overall pick finished the 2022 season with a league-leading 20 passes defended, also adding 75 tackles and two INTs in his rookie year, helping the Jets became one of the best defenses in the NFL.

AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

Winner: Jets’ WR Garrett Wilson

The Ohio State alum led all rookies in receptions (83) and receiving yards (1,103) in the 2022 season.

AP Defensive Player of the Year

Winner: 49ers‘ DE Nike Bosa

Bosa, 25, finished the 2022 regular season as the league leader in sacks at 18.5 in 16 games played. Adding 51 combined tackles, 19 TFLs and 48 QB hits, Bosa was a wrecking ball of enormous proportions for the Red & Gold.

He is the first 49er to receive the award since Dana Stubblefield in 1997.

AP Offensive Player of the Year

Winner: Vikings’ WR Justin Jefferson

The third-year wideout was a force to be reckoned with in 2022, leading the NFL in receiving yards at 1809 in 17 games played. Throw in 128 receptions and eight touchdowns, Jefferson was the best wideout of the 2022 season. He beat out Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill for the award.

AP Assistant Coach of the Year

Winner: DeMeco Ryans

Former 49ers’ DC DeMeco Ryans was phenomenal in 2022, coaching the San Francisco defense to be the best unit in the NFL. First in yards and points allowed, the Red & Gold under Ryans produced one of the best defenses in the last decade.

After a second standout season, Ryans took his talents to Houston, becoming the next head coach of the Texans last week. He will now be tasked with rebuilding a young Houston franchise that he once played for. And with the second overall pick in the 2023 draft, many expect Ryans to flourish from the jump.

The 12th Annual NFL Honors award show aired Thursday, Feb. 9th at 6 p.m. PST on NBC
