Less than 24 houses after Super Bowl LVII, Eagles’ offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is off to bigger opportunities.

The Philadelphia coach will reportedly fly to Indianapolis Monday, where he is expected to be named the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts franchise. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the details, noting Sunday that Steichen had emerged as the frontrunner for the position.

Steichen, a Sacramento native, is a proud graduate of Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills where he played quarterback. A two-star prep QB, Steichen enrolled at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Playing in 23 collegiate games, Steichen threw for 2755 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

After his playing career, the Oak Ridge alum joined various programs as an assistant coach before getting his first coordinator opportunity with the LA Chargers in 2020. Joining the Eagles in 2021, Steichen has gone 23-11 in two seasons in Philly. The Eagles finished the 2022 regular season with the third-highest scoring offense (28.1 PPG) and third in the league in total yards (389.1 PPG).

His final contest with the team came at Super Bowl LVII, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35. Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts had a combined 374 yards throwing and rushing, getting to the endzone four times as well.

Shane Steichen, 37, will now be tasked with rebuilding a Colts franchise coming off a lackluster 4-12-1 season. Already possessing a solid offensive line and multiple playmakers on both sides of the football, Indianapolis will likely select their quarterback of the future with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. But with only a projected $11.89 million to spend in free agency, Indianapolis may have cut costs in the near future.
