Ahead of his trip to Salt Lake City, Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Huerter joined the Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Friday to talk about how he’s preparing for the three-point contest, what it means for him and his teammates to be involved in All-Star weekend, and more.

Topics discussed include:

  • When he found out he was selected and how De’Aaron Fox spoiled the news
  • The differences between shooting in a game and spot-shooting in the gym off the rack
  • How often he has been able to practice for the competition with just 10 days’ notice
  • If he plans to attend any All-Star weekend events
  • “For me, this is big. You grow up, you watch these things on TV and there’s a lot of energy and it’s All-Star weekend. I think for me, I want to experience that at least one time in person, hopefully more, but that was kind of a big thing for me, doing it this year.”
  • His gameplan for the three-point contest
  • The adjustment he and many other new members of the Kings had to make at the beginning of this season to where they are as a group now
  • How the lack of moves at the trade deadline was seen more as a vote of confidence by the front office
  • Why his style of play is a good fit with this group of teammates and what he has unlocked in his game this year
  • “Part of my job in this offense is taking attention off the other guys that are on the court.”
  • Domantas Sabonis being one of the smartest and most unselfish teammates he’s played with.
  • The amount of change that happened in the Western Conference and how that impacts the team’s outlook for the final 25 games
  • “I really don’t think the trade deadline added a new sense of urgency. We’ve felt that sense of urgency from the start of the year. We know what drought this organization is in, there’s no way to run from it. We’ve had goals since the start of the season that, in the building, we take care of and control what we can control.”
  • What has surprised Kevin Huerter the most about this season
