The holiday weekend kicked off with some Derek Carr news and it came to a close with some, too.

On Friday, reports emerged that former Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr would spend the weekend in New York visiting the Jets.

Days later, his brother David Carr said the trip went well.

“Derek had a great trip,” David Carr said on NFL Total Access. “So he went there to get a feel for how they work from the top down.”

David went on to Derek and Jets coach Robert Saleh “hit it off” and would “love to work together” but Derek is not going to make any rash decisions.

“It’s gonna be a long process though,” David added. “He really only has the Saints, the Raiders and the Jets to kind of compare those three places. And so he wants to do his due diligence and see as many places as he can to get a feel for what the best place for him will be.”

This was the second known trip Derek has taken so far this offseason to visit a potential new team. Earlier this month and before the Raiders release him, the organization approved Derek to visit the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are expected to be one of several teams to pursue Derek Carr. Current Saints head coach Dennis Allen was Carr’s coach in Oakland during the quarterback’s rookie season. Allen lasted four games before he was fired by the Raiders.

Derek is able to visit and sign with teams now ahead of NFL free agency starting on March 15.

How the Raiders’ tenure ended for Derek Carr

With two weeks remaining in the 2022 season, the Las Vegas Raiders made the surprising decision to bench long-time starter Derek Carr. The Raiders drafted Carr in 2014, starting 142 games for the Silver and Black. Over his nine years as the team’s starter, he threw for a franchise-leading 35,222 passing yards and finished with 62-78 record. He technically made the playoffs twice, but the first appearance he did not play because he was injured by the time the postseason rolled around.
